Distances on Flores are measured in hours, not kilometres
The Trans-Flores road is long, mountainous and slow, and a map estimate can understate a leg by half. Our route pages give hours rather than kilometres, state which season the figure was recorded in, and flag the sections that deteriorate in the wet. We would rather a traveller allow an extra day than discover at dusk that the Bajawa–Ende leg does not fit before dark.
How cultural and site information is handled
Village and ceremonial material — Wae Rebo, Bena, the caci tradition, Kelimutu’s significance to local communities — is described with the permissions and etiquette that apply, sourced from the communities and the managing authorities rather than from tour copy that treats a living village as an attraction.
