The honest position
Why catamarans are rare here
Labuan Bajo’s fleet grew out of the Bugis boat-building tradition, and that means phinisi. Catamarans arrived late, in small numbers, and mostly reposition between regions rather than sitting in Komodo year-round.
So a catamaran charter here is an availability question first and a price question second. Rates are quoted per charter once a vessel is confirmed free, not published as a standing tariff.
If a catamaran matters to you specifically — usually because of motion — say so at the first message. If none is free, the honest alternative is a larger phinisi, which rolls less than a small one.

What a sailing charter covers either way
Hull type does not change the itinerary or the inclusions.
Usually separate:
Park entrance and conservation fees, alcohol, dive tanks and guide, airport transfers, and crew gratuities.
- The whole vessel and crew for the charter period.
- All cabins aboard, whether or not you fill them.
- Meals and drinking water prepared on board.
- Snorkelling equipment and tender transfers to each site.
- Ranger-guided trekking permits arranged for you.
- Fuel and anchorage for the agreed route.

Why are catamarans so rare in Komodo?
The local fleet grew from the Bugis phinisi tradition. Catamarans are recent arrivals, few in number, and often repositioned between regions rather than based here.

Can we charter a catamaran for a party or a group event?
Yes, and the open-plan deck suits it. Confirm capacity, licensing and what the crew will and will not host before you pay.
Are catamarans available in Raja Ampat instead?
More often, yes. If the hull type matters more than the destination, that is worth raising at enquiry.
Do catamarans work for honeymoons?
They do — the private hull cabins and the wide deck suit two people well. Availability is the same constraint as always.
