The flight, and what it constrains
Denpasar to Labuan Bajo runs daily and takes about one hour fifteen minutes non-stop. Ende and Maumere are also served but take longer and usually involve a connection.
The constraint is timing rather than distance. Boats board in the morning, so a morning flight puts you on the water the same day and an afternoon flight does not. That single choice is worth a whole day of the trip.
Ferries and long-distance buses exist via Sumbawa, but they take days and several changes. They are a route for people with time, not a saving worth making on a week-long trip.

How do I get from Bali to Komodo?
Fly Denpasar to Labuan Bajo — about 1 hour 15 minutes non-stop, daily. Then it is a short drive to the harbour and onto the boat.
Can I go by ferry instead?
Yes, via Sumbawa, but it takes days and several changes. It is a route for people with time rather than a meaningful saving.
Is Flores cheaper than Bali?
On the ground, broadly yes for food and transport. Boats and park fees are the exception — those are the real cost of a Komodo trip and they are not cheap anywhere.
How many days do I need?
Four as a minimum door to door. Seven to ten if you want to add the Flores overland crossing rather than flying straight back.
What if my flight is delayed?
Build a buffer night in Labuan Bajo before the boat. A single delayed flight is the most common way a Komodo trip loses a day.
Can I combine Bali, Komodo and Lombok?
Yes, and the flights make it straightforward. Say so at enquiry so the sequence is built once rather than patched together.
Should I book the flight or the boat first?
The flight. The boat is scheduled around it, and morning arrivals are worth a whole extra day on the water.
Which airport should I fly out of?
Labuan Bajo if you are flying straight back. Ende or Maumere if you are continuing overland, so you are not driving the island twice.
