A private 3D2N is a charter booked exclusively for your group. No shared cabins, no shared deck, and no fixed departure list you have to fit around.
The practical gain is timing. Padar at sunrise means being at anchor the night before. Manta Point means arriving on the right tide. A shared boat cannot bend to either; a private one is built around them.
Most routes cover Rinca or Kalong on day one, Padar and Pink Beach on day two, and a final reef near Kanawa or Sebayur before disembarking early on day three.

What does a private 3D2N cost?
It is priced per boat rather than per person, so the total divides across your group. Boutique phinisi charters start from around USD 1,800 per boat per night; entry-luxury vessels from around USD 5,300.
Can we see mantas?
Manta Point is tide-dependent and seasonal. A private boat can be there in the right window, which is the main reason people charter rather than join.
Should we stay in a Labuan Bajo hotel first?
If your flight lands late, yes. Most charters board in the morning, and arriving the night before removes the risk of a delayed flight costing you day one.
Is 3D2N enough?
For Padar, dragons, Pink Beach and one manta attempt, yes. Add a night if you want the quieter reefs or a slower pace.
What should we pack?
Soft bag, quick-dry towel, reef-safe sunscreen, a light layer for the night deck, motion-sickness tablets, and a dry bag for the tender transfers.
Can two people charter a whole boat?
Yes, but the per-head cost is high. Below about four travellers a shared cabin is usually the better value.
Where does the boat pick us up?
From the Labuan Bajo harbour jetties. The desk confirms which one and at what time the day before.
Do we sleep at anchor?
Yes, both nights. Boats anchor in sheltered bays; the passages happen while you are awake, not overnight.
